Throughout
a typical day at Mukuru, all the students learn both job skills
and academic subjects. Students take classes in Math, English, Science,
and History in regular classrooms just like the ones we have here
in the US. Some students live on campus and others walk to school
from their homes.
After grade eight, some students go on to study at the secondary
school level, but not everyone is able to do this because they can’t
afford the tuition. Most students from Mukuru that go on to secondary
school receive scholarships. The other students that don’t
go on to the next school level either stay home and help their families,
or go out and get a job. Mukuru students are well prepared to go
out into the working world after the good training at their school.
They are very appreciative of the education they’ve received
and Lutheran World Relief uses gifts marked Stand With Africa
to help them and their school.
