TanzaniaHIV/AIDS Situation Analysis and Planning
Partners:
ELCA and Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania and Lutheran World
Relief.
DESCRIPTION:
The
Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania began phase one of an AIDS education
and prevention program in 1987, and continued in phase two beginning
in 1995. For a variety of reasons, the program flourished in the Kagera
(Northwest) area of Tanzania, but participation and impact has been
uneven in the other three zones. The project will analyze the current
state of phase two of the HIV/AIDS program of the ELCT and plan phase
three.
OBJECTIVES:
To ascertain gaps in HIV/AIDS education in diocesan prevention
programs.
To note the extent of counseling programs, care for patients
living with AIDS and provide assistance for widows and and orphans in
the participating dioceses.
To ascertain the best practices that might be shared with participating
units.
To plan phase three of the ELCT HIV/AIDS education and prevention
program.
