Liberia—Phebe Hospital School of Nursing and Midwifery.

Partners: ELCA and Phebe Hospital and School of Nursing.

DESCRIPTION:

Prior to the war, Phebe Hospital and School of Nursing operated several training centers, including nursing, laboratory technician, and midwifery training. Phebe is a church hospital, which has been designated the country medical center and referral and training hospital.

Training is still a component of Phebe, on a more limited basis, now that parts of Phebe’s program have begun again.


OBJECTIVES:

• To train nurses who will in turn train traditional village midwives.

To provide safer delivery of babies in the large service area of Bong County served by Phebe Hospital and its community outreach programs.

• To assist person working in the difficult community health problems caused by the many disruptions of the civil war.

• To assist in the process of reconstruction and renovation of the hospital and school of nursing facilities.
